The old electric cars' battery life wasn't nearly as good as it is today, and many hybrids would experience battery degradation after about 100,000 miles of driving. This no longer happens because the plug-in hybrid battery chemistry and cell packing technology has dramatically improved in electric vehicles. standard car batteries only last a few years at best. Although hybrid cars have been breathtakingly dependable, there is a limit to the life of nickel-metal hydride battery packs. While some hybrid vehicle owners had to replace batteries at 70,000 miles, others have gotten as much as 200,000 miles out of their original units.
For vehicles with gasoline/electric hybrid powertains, it's strongly recommeded drivers to get the hybrid battery pack maintained, diagnosed completely if the vehicles have unusual noise or higher MPG, let alone there is ERROR CODE on dashboard. Cylindrical replacement hybrid battery would renew the hybrid vehicle's excellent ride in another 5-8 years.
As to plug-in electric cars and pure electric cars, they may have longer lifespan if properly ride. However, if they have battery issues, it may cost a big fortune.
